Hernando Cortes
Hernando Cortes was a Spanish explorer, born in 1485, he was one of the most influential people because of many life-changing things that he did. Cortes was chose to sail to the new world with Diego Velazquez. At the new world, Velazquez selects Cortes to captain a ship to Mexico to start colonies there. In 1519, Cortes enters the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, Montezuma II, the Aztec king, didn’t do anything to stop him going into a city filled with thousands of Aztecs. Cortes takes Montezuma as hostage and forced him to swear to King Charles V of Spain.
In 1520 Hernando Cortes is attacked by thousands of Aztec warriors. This is known as the slaughter of 600. Cortes and his soldiers are forced to leave the Aztec capital. The next year, Cortes comes back to the Aztec capital and conquers 5 million Aztecs with only 1000 soldiers. This led to the fall of the Aztec empire. Hernando Cortes returns to Spain in 1528. Before his death he only returned to the new world once only to discover Baja in California but then come back to Spain a year later. He died at the age 62 on December 2nd 1547. In conclusion, because of Cortes, millions of Aztecs died and the Aztec empire fell. This is why Hernando Cortes is one of the most 100 most influential people.

Good job on Cortez. 4. Use left alignment when you type up an essay here instead of centering it. You can center poetry, but it's better to use left alignment instead. Poem 3. Mr. Chester

Chinese Poem:

Willows sway softly in the breeze

While the peasants workAnd the buffalo trudge through the fieldsThe fog on the horizonSlight and transparentDrifting away

Very nice. You evoke the scene quite well. Mr. Chester
Pollution Threatens South American Lake Titicacalink:
http://soc202events.blogspot.com/2012/04/blog-11-pollution-threatens-south.html

Summary :

Lake Titicaca has been a very resourceful lake to the local people, farmers, and fisherman. But pollution in the lake has left a tragic impact on the people. Much water contamination from sewers and pipelines have made parts of the water dark and foamy. Livestock can no longer drink from the lake and farmers can no longer wash their potatoes to make dried potatoes. Farmers have to build their own wells to get water now. Mercury dumping and human and industrial waste are some causes for the pollution. If the pollution doesn't stop, farmers will have to leave their homes and go to cities where they are behind on basic services. More people will make these cities even more behind. People will die/get sick from this lack of sanitation. Many people have tried to get the message out, and have succeeded, but no action was taken.
